I'd like to invite you to come along to The Vyner Studio for the opening of über kitsch - german contemporaries tomorrow from 6 till 930 pm.


Description:

über kitsch - german contemporaries takes place at the Vyner Studio in East London, 2nd til 4th September 2010. 7 young artists from fine art academies in Nürnberg and München combine living tradition with a playful freudian irony to create a happy but broken nostalgia. Colourful camp oil paintings, animation videos and quirky photographies let your living room die a pink retro death. Sigmund freud was from austria, which feels much closer to artists from cozy southern german cities like Munich or Nuremberg than cold Prussian north. Kitsch ‘n‘ sink rules! Less is a bore. too much is not enough.

I saw this photography of Gilbert Garcin on Buamai, a select collective posting unique imagery from various sources with a focus on Graphic Design, Architecture, Fashion and Art.

Buamai is curated by César Pesquera, a director, graphic designer and audiovisual artist that is always involved in many interesting things. A while ago I posted "Passier 8", a great short film directed by Pesquera. I have only checked a little bit of of Buamai´s archive, and I got absorved by this fantastic photographs. by Garcin. Thanks to Vanessa Bejarano, who sent me the link of Buamai.

Soon I hope to post the new short film of Pesquera: "Círculo Uno". In the meantime, I am sure that I will reffer to Buamai many more times with great art works.

Tomorrow I will provably make it to Frieze Art Fair In London. You guys enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Daniel Pianesi, who sent me a link to Rebekka Gudleifs work. Here´s a few pictures I chose from the blog and the website of this great self taught photographer from Iceland.
I am very glad that I am getting more and more feedback from you guys making this blog interactive and exciting. Today I want to thank Daniel for his collaboration but also all of you for your interaction and for following the blog wich is about to reach 2000 visits since I started it.

At the moment I am working on the next step for THINGSWORTHSEEING: a real dynamic space where workshops, exhibitions, video screenings and many more things will happen. The location will be in London´s East End. I will keep you informed.

The Omo people

"JR´s work is about much more than size. He uses surprise and humour and courage to break down boundaries between people. He takes his art on to the street and into war zones and places where art seems to have no place. He creates odd juxtapositions that forces people to ask questions and to smile.
He started by creating large stencils and then industrial-size photocopies of his pictures and pasting them up in the streets of Paris. He then took photographs of street scenes wich included his own fly-posted photographs or "photograffs". He posted these photographs in the streets as well."
"In the past two years JR has exporetd the idea of "grimaces for peace" across the globe. He took close-ups in Israel and Palestine of grimacing people who did the same jobs: taxi-drivers, hairdressers, chefs, security guards. He blew them up and stuck them side by side, on buildings on either side om the Israel-Palestinian divide and on the wall that separates Israel from the West Bank.
Wich were the grimacing Paelestinians? Wich were the grimacing Israelies? Most people could not tell. JR took pictures of Israelies and Palestinians staring at his pictures. He posted those up as well."
"I own the biggest art gallery in the world, JR says. I exhibit freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people that are not museum visitors. My work mixes art and act. It talks about commitments, beauty, freedom, identity and limit.
JR takes art into places ruled by suspicion, poverty, violence and oppression but insists he is making an artistic statement, not a political one. I am an not an artist with a cause, but an artist who causes people to think - he says." (The Independent)

"Sueños Dorados" by Yapci Ramos. I met this artist at Taller Caminal, Barcelona. This studio was demolished due to urban planning and a lot of artists struggled to find their way.
Yapci is a photographer and also works in partnership with Samuel Cabrera bringing a project called noquiet.

“I always empathize with photographers due to some type of intrinsic connection or attraction. In the moment of taking a photograph, photographers engender a dynamic relation between various elements: those of an unconscious nature, that which reveals the intimate landscape of each person. Their habits, their familiar objects and their particular manner of laying them out are documented. I am engaged in what happens when I am with them as a photographer and the things that unexpectedly happen.I take a lot of photographs, all happen so suddenly that I cannot see all the elements that fuse together to make the whole until later. "Kika" by Gaia Cambiaggi

This specific portrait by Gaia Cambiaggi remained me "Writing with light", an exhibition I visited in San Sebastian at Kursaal Congress Centre, an amazing architectural work by Rafael Moneo.

This exhibition was a retrospective of cinematographer Vittorio Storaro and his work was divided in three books that reflected a project of a lifetime. This book is a vocabulary of vision. It is based on wich philosophers, scientists and painters around the world have always researched: the mistery of vision.

"Images are the language of cinema. They are formed by the embrace and the conflict of LIGHT and SHADOW, orchestrated on the screen by one of the co-authors of the film: the author of cinematography.

It doesn´t matter in wich part of the world the screen is. Through this screen we are able to express ourselfs, our culture, our sentiments and our emotions.Through this screen we are able to learn and to teach each other.
